Growing up, my dad always had this phrase.. “Do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life!” I know he didn’t come up with that phrase, but it has been echoed around our house since the moment we were born. The reason I love this phrase is because it is absolutely, 1000% true!
Since I was a young girl, I always knew that I wanted to work for myself. Call me selfish, but the idea of making someone else money, when I could be doing that for myself just didn’t appeal to me. It’s not just that though, it’s the chance to really make something of myself, to achieve incredible things and build something I can be proud of.
I started my first business at 19 whilst I was away at college – YouDesign.Co! The business was build around running social media for other businesses, and helping them with branding. It was something I fell into rather than planned.. But I think those are sometimes the best ways.
When I moved home from college at 20, I worked a few other jobs whilst I built up the business. Working these other jobs opened my eyes to that phrase we talked about at the start… I wasn’t doing what I loved. Work was very much work for me. I hated what I was doing, I didn’t like my boss too much and I found that my confidence took a huge dip. So I left (a week before my wedding – eek!) and decided to go full speed ahead in business with my dad as the MD of Biz Engine.
